I`ll keep my Linen tablecloths..

I could not have woken up to a more beautiful day. Sunbeams all over my pillow, crisp air, with this always wonderful feeling  Friday morning, it`s weekend ! Yes it is actually weekend, again.

This morning I read one of my favorite blogs, The Belgian Linen blog - by Didriks, that trend analysts predict that tablecloth in near future likely will disappear for good. That`s a bold statement ! Well, I could not disagree more, at least it will not dissapear if I got my way, that`s for sure. And ultimately, it is we who decide, and not those who predict and dictate the trends. Don`t you agree ?
The tablecloth has been a decorative element, part of table setting, developing for more than thousand of years. The history of table setting actually goes back before the medieval era. Around the 12th century the custom of using table linen was almost universal throughout France and Italy. Napkins have even been around since the middle ages when stylish people stopped wiping their mouths on the tablecloths and started providing individual linen squares for themselves and their sloppier guests. So No, I really do not think it will disappear anytime soon!

For my part I`ll be sure to keep the tablecloths alive by decorating a beautiful breakfast, lunch or a dinner table. Nothing is more beautiful to look at, a large rustic wooden table draped with a heavy linen cloth contrasted by white porcelain with spring flowers set in a large vase. Added to those who are looking forward to enjoy a delicious meal...

A very Happy weekend to you all !!

What a brilliant post! I totally agree - not only do I LOVE table cloths, but I certainly don't follow trends when it comes to something that I find beautiful and a wonderful addition to any table - whether formal or casual. Stick to whatever makes you happy and brightens your day, that's my mantra - and table cloths do exactly that for me! have a great weekend! x

I love linen! I have many tableclothes in my home. Some of them are from my mum. I like one colored, pure linen and colorful, with floral patterns. I don' t agree, that linen textiles will disappear! I think it's the same story, like with fastfood. When You celebrate the meals, You want apropriate setting.

I love using table cloths....but I will say that in the US where I am from, they are almost gone.
Living in France has brought them back to life for me and I enjoy finding beautiful vintage pieces in the brocante and adding them to my every day life.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Here in America tablecloths are disappearing because everyone eats fast food in front of their television and their dining tables are used for other things. But not here Amongst The Oaks! We use tablecloths all the time in the dining room and in the kitchen. They are seasonal, civilized, and just so comforting. Thanks for a beautiful post.

Laura :

It's so sad to hear! And perhaps even sadder to hear that the family no longer sit around a table together and eat a nice meal. Here in Europe, the tablecloth is still very popular, both outside and inside. And the family is still enjoying a meal together. At least one meal during the day. And let it continue like that, Please ...

Thank you for visiting and have a wonderful weekend ~ Aina

Although easy-care synthetics or synthetic blends are popular, we suggest avoiding them for formal dining because they are not as absorbent and have a tendency to pile over time. Some synthetics are also highly sensitive to heat, causing them to become shiny when they are pressed with a hot iron.
